On a performance at the Kissinger Sommer’s Festival Opera Gala

“The 29 year-old David Lomelí is a world-class tenor, born in Mexico City and currently working in San Francisco. He is thoroughly at home on stage and must make people in San Francisco very happy with the sound of his voice. As soon as he sings, he singularly evokes nobility and the certainty that there is nothing more important at this moment, nothing more exciting, and nothing that can be more moving. If the voice of Pavarotti was the 20th Century – then the 21st could be Lomeli. He has it all: charisma, brilliance, levity, an unerring sense of timing, phrasing, and dynamics, as well as comedy and drama. This third appearance at Kissinger Sommer’s Festival Opera Gala is yet another triumph: In the stands they raged like people in the bleachers of a football stadium with seemingly endless cries of ‘Bravo’ from the boxes.”

"Lomelí brought the evening to a heroic close with 'Nessun dorma' from Puccini's Turandot, singing with effortless power and ringing clarity."
- Joshua Kosman, San Francisco Chronicle
